The new update to the site includes the website face lift with all new features including Memorials, T443 and T433 Alumni, T443 and T433 memorials, a new Venture Site and games. Please check often for up coming news.

January 5th 2008   "The Bottle Drive"

Today the Troop and the New Venture Crew did a bottle drive to help raise funds.  Sounds like it was a complete success.  I don't have a tally yet for the drive.  It sounds like it is going to rival our Nov bottle drive.  Big thanks to all of you Scouts and Venturers who came out to help out today.  Great job.

January 3rd 2008    "Venture Crew 443 LIVES!!!!"

With the help our District Executive, Matt Mower, and the VFW we put the Venture Crew officially on the map.  Up until today, the Venture Crew members were listed as "Lone Scouts".  Today you are officially Venture Crew 443 chartered under the VFW, the same chartering organization that charters the Winslow Boy Scout Troop 433.  Congratulations!!!!   Now the Venture Crew will benefit from the same services the Troop does in K-Valley  District and Pine Tree Council.  Special thanks to Pine Tree DE Matt Mower, VFW Quartermaster and T433 Charter Rep Lee Giroux and VFW Commander Randy Worthley.

Also a big thanks to Kris Welch who has volunteered to be the New Venture Crew 443 Advisor.  I am sure Kris will be an excellent Advisor to the crew and we thank you on behalf of the Troop and Crew.

January 1st 2008    "HAPPY NEW YEARS TROOP 433 and VENTURES

December 22nd 2007   "ALL NIGHTER"

Yes that is right it was the Annual Troop 433 All Nighter!!!!  For those of you who don't know what this is, it is our coveted yearly event the boys look forward to every year.  This is basically a lock in at the local elementary school.  The troop (and this year the new Venture members) meet at the elementary school in the evening.  They are allowed to bring games, video games, food(mostly junk food) and what ever else they think would be fun.  They get locked into the school and basically stay up all night into the early morning playing games and having fun.  With the adult supervision, they are basically allowed to do just about anything.  Some of the events we had going was a multi-video game system tenement.  Video game platforms being everything from Atari 2600 all the way up to the Wi.  We played board games and even had a 5 hour game of dodge ball going in the gym. It is a really big event that draws a majority of the troop and part of the Cub Pack.  Food was donated to this event from Wonderlick Malic Engineering in Winslow.  Thank you very much for that.   Also food was brought in by youth and leaders alike.  Thanks to everyone who helped make this event safe(with the exception of all of us who got Gehrlinged during dodge ball) and fun for everyone.   I totally look forward to next year.

December Gift Wrapping

Big thanks to Committee Chair Bridget Gehrling for organizing and running the Gift Wrapping fund raiser on Main St in Waterville.  Even though financially it was a total wash.  Thanks a million to all the Scouts and Venturers who came and volunteered time in this event.  I am sure next year we will come out ahead.  Much like anything there will be bugs to work out.  However, the final goal of "Wrapping Gifts" for donations was accomplished.   Thanks you all for your help and time for the troop.

November 25th 2007   "Fallen Scouter"

Raymond Kimball 1932-2007.  Raymond fondly known as "Papa Bear" was the former Scoutmaster of Winslow Boy Scout Troop 443 back in the 1970s.  Raymond was also a past K-Valley District Commissioner who worked at Camp Bomazeen many many years as a Camp Commissioner.  He was always seen walking from Campsite to Campsite doing Campsite inspections for the Camp.  Ray will be sadly missed by all Scouts who knew him.

November 23rd 2007   "Christmas Day Parade Waterville"

The Troop and Ventures participated in the annual Waterville Christmas Parade which should be re-named "Black Friday Parade".  The parade was a success and we had a very good turn out of youth for this event even though it was freekin' freezing out. =o) Thanks to all of you who showed up.

November 17th 2007   "Bottle drive time again"

Yeup, that's right, another T433 bottle drive.  We only had a few scouts come out, but we made about $250 for the troop.  Not too bad.  Keep in mind guys, that for every dollar you earn you get a percentage in your personal account.  The drive was a huge success based on the number of troop members who showed to help out.  Thanks a million guys.

November 11th 2007   "Venetians Day Parade"

Thanks to the Troop and Venture members who showed up to support our Veterans.  To the Veterans we really appreciate all that you have done and are still doing for our Country.  Without your our freedom would not exist.  To the Troop and Venturers thank you for showing your support to our troops.  You are the future of our country, you are the reason the Veterans fight for this country.  Thanks again.

November 2nd - 4th 2007   "Fort Halifax building the bridge to the Cubs"

This was our Troop/Cub event held at Fort Halifax Park in Winslow.  This trip was designed to do some co-camping with our little buddies in the Cub Scout troop.  Helping to build better bonds between our two units. We had invited some guests down to do some camping with us.  Bill "Wildfire" Nettel who is from Ellsworth and is very involved with Scouting in his neck of the woods.  Bill is very involved with the Ancient Ones 1840 fur trade living history group and is an expert tomahawk thrower.  Two-Moose, another Ancient One member from the Augusta area, has also been involved in the Scouting program for years came and visited with us.  He is an excellent marksman and helped by doing a musket demonstration where the boys got to see how the load and fire.  We were also happy to have Jeff "Turtle" DeHart from the Gardiner Troop, also and Antient Ones member, show up.  Turtle is a registered Maine guide as well.  Turtle really helped all the way around.  Last but not least, we were blessed with the presences of Mike "Re-con" Douglas who is the owner and instructor at Maine Primitive Skills School, found on the web at http://www.primitiveskills.com/. Mike is also the Assistant Scoutmaster for the Waterville Boy Scout troop.

" The first day, Friday was ok, but a bit on the chilly side, but in classic style fire was our best friend.  The fallowing day was filled with tons of fun.  The experts did some demos for us, and we participated in huge game of capture the flag that encompassed the entire Fort Halifax park.. Unfortunately, due to inclement weather we had to bail out of the park in the late after noon as they had predicted the reminisce of a Hurricane to touch down in our area.  So rather then chance wet, cold sick scouts, we called it off just before the rain started coming in.  Better luck next year huh?Big thanks to all the Scouts and volunteers who helped make it partially happen. =o) Also check the gallery for pictures coming soon.

October 25th 2007   "Court of Honor"

The Troop held its tri-annual Court of Honor.  This is our banquet to honor boys with there accomplishments though out the year.   We almost had a 100 % turn out for this Court of Honor.  That makes me, as Scoutmaster" Very proud.  It shows us adult leaders that you really care about the troop....or that you think the pot luck dinner is really tasty.   One or the other. =o) I believe we all walked away with something other then just a filled belly.  Even some of the Venturers got something.  We had tons of patches, badges and prized handed out.  Great job to all of you over the past year.  You have all earned a big pat on the back.  I look forward to seeing all of you again at the next Court of honor which is also our Cub Scout Cross over and the Cub Scout Blue and Gold to be held in February 2008.  See you all there.

October 19th, 20th and 21st       "HAPPY BIRTHDAY WORLD

SCOUTING!!!"  Maine Jam 07'

The Troop and Venturers participated in the Pine Tree Council Maine Jamboree 2007 marking the 100th Anniversary of world Scouting. This was a huge event including all five districts in Pine Tree Council, we had some folks even come in from out of the council to participate in our camping Jamboree.  There were several events in which the Scouts were able to participate in.  The event was held at Oxford Fair Grounds.  The coolest part(in my opinion) was the laser light show they had at the evening. Thanks to all who came out to this event.  I had a good time and I know you all did too, even though it rained buckets Friday night.  Over all the trip was a success and I look forward to future Jamborees with you all.   Also look for pictures from Maine Jam 07 in the gallery....coming soon.

October 7th 2007    "Fallen Scouter"

Roger Carlton Ormsby 1937-2007.  Roger was our Chartering Organization Representative.  Rogers was a great member of Troop 443 and 433.  He was all about helping the troop and will be sadly missed.   Donations in Rogers name were made to Troop 433.  We thank all of you who have donated to us.

October 5th, 6th and 7th   The Annual "Get to know you" Camping trip at Camp Bomazeen.

This is the Annual trip of Troop 433 in which we bring old and new Scouts together to get to know each other.  We try to plan this trip as close to our Recruitment drive as possible.  It is designed to get newly signed on Scouts out and camping while allowing them to get to know the Scouts that have been in the troop for a while.  I have found this to be a very handy trip for me to get to know the new recruits as well.  An added bonus is we invited our newly signed on Venturers to come out and participate. This year we had quite a fun time.  We did a 1 mile compass course through Camp Bomazeen.  The starting point was Lakeview campsite.  The course took them through Windy CS, Hollow CS, The council ring, Ridge CS up the ridge, Acadia CS, to Bomazeen Rock and down to the Water front. 95 % of the troop made it to within 200 feet of the final end point.  There were approximately 30 directions changes including a couple of back azimuths.  Great job to all of you. We also had a Camp Wide Capture the Flag game with only one point scored.  Totally fun!

In the Evening we were blessed to hear some pickin' and grinnin' from some our troop members.  I do believe we got "Lava Lamp" an original song by Henry on Video.  Who knows maybe we will post it up here at some point. Lastly, on Sunday we held a Tomahawk throwing competition just before we left for the weekend.  We had a really great time and I look forward to the next GKY trip. Thanks to all the leaders and youth who came out for this event and thanks to the new recruits, Scouts and Venturers alike.

September 14th, 15th and 16th     "Moosehorn International Camporee"

This trip was a trip to Moosehorn Wildlife Refuge.  The Camporee is hosted by Katahdin Area Council (the other Scout Council in Maine).  It is an event that goes on every year but our troop has not attended in ten years. Some of the events at this camporee were tomahawk throwing, cooking, pioneering, patch trading and cycling.  Some of the boys even got to get a tee-shirt silk screened with the 2007 Moosehorn patch design. The troop participated in the cooking competition, tomahawk throwing  and the pioneer competition.   They placed first in the Pioneering competition.  Great job guys. =o) Thanks to all the leaders who come out and drove us up there.  Without you it wouldn't have happened.  Thanks to the troop for showing all of Katahdin council how to have a completely fun time in the pouring rain.

September 11th.    "RECRUITMENT DRIVE!"

We held out annual recruitment drive at the Winslow Elementary and Jr High School.  We built our freekin huge tower again drawing a bunch of new Scouts in.  We even started recruiting Venture Crew Members with the hopes of starting a new Venture Crew here in Winslow. The recruitment drive was a huge success with a whole bunch of new blood to add to our ranks.  I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you and having many-a-fun adventures in the future. Big thanks to Matt Mower our new District Executive for helping to lash together our Recruitment tower.  Thanks a ton.

August 24th, 25th and 26th    "Wilderness survival trip" Quartz

Campsite in Albion.

This was really an experimental camping trip in Scout leader and Scout member nerves. =o) The scout troop was given a list of 37 items in which they could only choose 15 to make a Wilderness Survival kit.  They were allowed to bring there survival kit and the cloths on there back to this trip.  We stayed out at Quartz Campsite in Albion.  The focus of the trip....Wilderness Survival.  The seven scouts who showed up knocked off about half of the Wilderness survival merit badge.  They also picked up a bunch of new information on wilderness survival. Some of the things they had to do, find food, build a debris hut, make fire and not go completely insane.  All in all it was a great experience for all of them.  I am sure if you talk to any of them they will tell you by far this was the best trip they have ever been on. Thanks to Henry and Regina for coming out and helping to put this thing together.  Pictures coming soon.

July 21st     "Fallen Scouter"

Lester Nedeau 1922 - 2007.   Lester was a former Assistant Scoutmaster to Troop 443 here in Winslow.  Lester served also as the Chartering representative to the Troop and the VFW for several years.  Lester was a member of the order of the Arrow and was highly loved and respected by the Winslow Boy Scouts who knew him.  Lester will be sadly missed.

Now is the time for our troop to raise money selling popcorn. Most of you already have your order forms. If you do not have a    form and would like one, please let me know at the next meeting.

Popcorn sales is a major part of our troop income so we may do the things we want to do as a troop and help with the cost of badges and awards. If anyone has any questions, please let me know. All orders should be turned in with any money collected no later than October 18th 2007 (Regular Scout Meeting).

August 5, 2007

Well I am pleased to announce that the July Camping trip to Camp Roosevelt in East Eddington Maine was a complete success. No one got sick or badly injured...ok, maybe a couple got just a little homesick but that is to be expected. The boys who went had a great time. All but one Scout had never been to resident camp (7 days) camp before. They did a great job and I am sure they are looking forward to next year already. Great job guys. Don't forget to check out the website for pictures from camp. (coming soon)...

Electra Buick (1978 - 2007)

Winslow, Maine

Electra Buick passed away unexpectedly in the presents of family and friends July 4th, 2007 at the annual Winslow Family 4th of July Celebration. She lived her life to the fullest, giving her life up for a fund raiser for Boy Scout Troop 433. She will be sadly missed.

She is survived by her owner, Chris Bernier of Winslow, SkyHawk Buick, Riviera Buick, Regal Buick, La Sabre Buick, SkyLark Buick, and Century Buick, all of Detroit, Michigan, as well as several nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been made at the recycle center in Oakland for the hopes of re-incarnation of a newer model vehicle.

**********************************************************************************

Also, the 4th of July Car Smash fund raiser we did was a BIG HIT! =o) We managed to raise approximately $700 for the boys to go to summer camp for next year. Great job there too guys. Also a huge THANK YOU! to VIP Auto Parts Discount store, Nabarawosky's TV, The Town of Winslow, and the 4th of July Committee for all of your support. We would also like to thanks all the Scouts who put in time to run the event, as well as the adult leaders who helped out to make this event a safe and successful fund raiser. Great job.

Ok, Some upcoming events to keep your eyes peeled on.

*** The Annual Winslow Troop recruitment drive. We are also going to help out with Waterville's Boy Scout Troop Recruitment drive. These both are going to take place around early September. Most likely the first week of School.

*** Next on tap, the Annual Winslow Boy Scout "Get to know you" Camping trip out to Camp Bomazeen. This trip designed to allow our troop members to get to know new recruits. It is a ton of fun rain or shine. =o) ***There has been talk about a camping trip out to Quartz Campsite in Albion for a "Wilderness Survival" Trek. This camping trip will be designed to knock off most of the requirements for Wilderness Survival Merit badge. The weekend will be spent munch like if you were lost in the woods. More information and a final date to come soon.

*** Also, we have the huge 100th anniversary of world Scouting Jamboree coming up at the Oxford Fairgrounds in Oxford Maine October19th-21st. They are expecting 5000 scouts to be in attendance this year.

*** End of October and Early November there will be "Merit Badge" college. This is a four night class held on consecutive Monday nights in which you will be able to sign up for and take two merit badges of your choice selected from a list of offered classes. Last year our I taught "Electronics" and "Electricity" Merit badge. This year I will most likely try to teach classes again, but I am unsure at this point. Those are the big plans we have this coming year at this point, there will be more to come soon. We are in the midst of planning more hikes, camping trips and fund raisers. Can't wait to see you all in the coming months for these fun activities.

Also, we will be holding troop elections in September. So keep that in mind and we will announce the meeting that will we held at soon. No other news to report at this time.

Wyman Road Campout was awesome! Being an Alumni of Troop 443, this brought me many good memories of camping with the Troop at this site. We still have a little work to do to finish cleaning the site, but we are gaining. Hopefully, the next time we go to the Wyman Rd., we can finish cleaning brush and debris and possibly get a Geocache box in place. Thanks to all the leaders and parents that came out.

Pete

O-kay, so I am not the Scoutmaster, but I do have some new stuff. First, the picture gallery is up and running. If you have some electronic photos of past events, please feel free to send them to me and I will post them as soon as I can. I would also like to get a Troop 443 / Troop 433 Alumni section of past Winslow Boy Scouts. Any photos in the 50 year history of scouting in Winslow would greatly be appreciated.

Second. I have posted all the committee meeting minutes I have. If there are any I do not have, please feel free to pass them on to me so I may post them as well

Thanks and YiS,

ABOUT TIME....right? I have been just a little bit on the busy side lately for regular updates.

District Pine Wood Derby was a complete success. Troop 433 and Pack 445 hosted the event at the Winslow Elementary Commons this last week. The troop and pack had a concessions stand in which the profits were split between the two. Our troop earned about $200 to go towards summer camp. John, Zachary, Ty, Derrick and Holden all worked, and clocked in several hours. Great job guys.

Up coming events. Make sure to check the calendar for these events and jot them down.

April will have the District Awards Banquet. This is for Adult leaders and family members. This is where the District awards the Adult leaders of Boy Scouts in K-Valley for a good job working in there troops. If you want to know more, please contact Scoutmaster Chris Bernier for details.

Spring Camporee is coming up in May. Here is the information direct from District.

The district committee discussed this at length. The plans for the Camporee to be held in Rangeley have been postponed until the Spring of 2008 so that there is time to properly plan this event. Camporee is not cancelled. We're going to Plan B and we hope that you'll appreciate Plan B with gas quickly approaching $3.00/gallon. Spring Camporee, May 1820, 2007 will now be held at Camp Bomazeen. Theme: Junior Leader Training and Cooking/Iron Scout! We are looking for leaders/older scouts who have a talent in a particular cooking style who would like to showoff their skills to others. We would like to have cooking technique demonstrations in the morning. Then at Noon, we will gather at the parade ground, where, like in the Food Network show, "IRON CHEF", a secret ingredient will be revealed. This ingredient will need to be used by the patrol in preparing their dish(es) for evening judging. They will have the afternoon to come up with their masterpiece dish(es). Don't want to cook? We will also be offering Junior Leader Training. What else, who knows? Do you have suggestions? Can you help during the demos? Are you willing to jump in on a virtual committee (communication via email) to help iron out the details for the Camporee? If so, please contact Matt Randall AND Mitch MacArthur ASAP so the details can be ironed out.

Matt's email: honors_pride@hotmail.com

Mitch's email: shaggy55@adelphia.net

We will try to get a flyer out as soon as the last of the details are ironed out. The sooner we get a few helpers, the sooner we can do that. Thank you! Matt and Mitch are also looking for volunteers to be on the committee to plan the spring '08 Camporee at Rangeley. Many ideas are already in place. Contact them for details. Also, Troop 433 is planning on doing some camping in the area between May and July. The Green Bar Council of Scouts will be planning those trips out in the very near future.

Summer Camp. This year the troop is going to Camp Roosevelt. We need parents to get there reservation fee of $50.00 in as soon as possible so we can reserve our spot at camp. If you have any question about summer camp contact SM Chris Bernier and or CC Bridget Gehrling.

OLD NEWS

What has the troop been up to since the last update? Well I will tell you. Troop 433 has been doing tons of fun and exciting things. Camp Bomazeen Winter Camping. The troop camped out this past January at Camp Bomazeen at the Pavilion. We had a total blast. The boys got to launch the rockets they made during the month of December, they got to do a lot of sliding and we even got a great game of Nuke War in as well. Despite the colder temps during the trip that never stopped ASM Donny from jumping the entire troop on an inner-tube but you didn't hear that from me. lol.

Checkout our Winter Camping photos here.

Checkout our Fall Camporee photos here.

In February the Troop had its Blue and Gold Crossover with the our Cub Scout pack 445. We crossed over and welcomed three new boys into our Boy Scout troop. So lets take a second here to welcome Zachary, John and Ty. Also congratulations to them for receiving the Arrow Of Light award the highest award in Cub Scouting.

In March the troop held an Adult Leader Training which when quite well. Most of March was dedicated to advancement and merit badge work. The weather here had been quite unfriendly for outside activities so the troop basically went into hibernation. Henry did his Eagle project in the middle of March in which he collected Blood for the Red Cross. The project went very well and hopefully we will get some pictures of that event up here on the site soon.

On the ides of March, Henry Turned 18 and has crossed over into the Adult Leadership Corp. Welcome to the other side Henry. =o)  Here is where the real work begins. Just kidding. We had another Troop member work on his Eagle Project. The troop, under Zack Freeman's leadership, built Loon Nests for Patties Pond here in Winslow. It was a very successful project and we will post pictures of this soon. Great job Zack. So with any luck we will have two New Eagles coming this early spring. Good luck to Henry and Zack in the final Board of review.

So that brings us Current to April.

Scoutmasters Corner

Hey everyone. It has been eons since our last web update. I am hoping I will get some more time freed up to do this more often. I want to officially welcome Zachary, Ty, and John to our troop. Also want to welcome Henry, Kris, Donny, Regina, and Audrie to the adult leadership corp. If any of you have suggestions for changes to the website please don't hesitate to let us know as Pete and I are trying our best to make this site fun, interesting as well as informative.

Thanks.

January 11th 2007

YLT.

Back at the beginning of December we had our first annual Youth Leader Training. We had a few boys show up and two of the Webelos from the Cub Pack. We covered a lot of material including Troop Structure and function, Committee Structure and function, as well as Patrol Method and Green Bar Council Meetings.

If you want to know more about this, you should talk to one of the guys who came out to the training. We learned some really good skills and hopefully will help the troop function more smoothly in the future. Thanks to Derrick, Henry, Seth, Zack, Keetan, and Zack for coming out and thank you to Georgery, Regina and Pete for coming out to help.

All Nighter

The Troop also participated in its 28th or 29th (somewhere in there) annual All Nighter at the Winslow Elementary. We did tons of fun things including Board Games, Video Games, Pass, Floor hockey, and many many more activities. Most of you made it completely through the night without falling asleep. The Nuclear War Card Game most likely had something to do with that. I hope you all had a good time and look forward to the next All Nighter next year.

Cub Scout Pine Wood Derby Builders Clinic.

Last weekend the troop helped the Cub Scouts build there pine Wood Derby Cars which will be raced in a couple of weeks. I want to thank Adam, Henry, Holden, Derrick, and Derrick for coming out to that.

TROOP MEETINGS

For the last few meetings we have been working on building model rockets as the month of December was "Rocketeering month". Just a quick reminder to those of you who have not paid for your rocket to please do so before the Jan 25th Meeting as the following weekend is "Launch Time".

For the current meetings we have been and will be doing a lot of planning for the next year and will be doing some stuff with the cub pack. Good job on the first "Green Bar Council Meeting" last night. I think things went well. We didn't quite get everything done but we got about four months of planning done for the troop. Great job guys on that one.

SCOUTMASTERS CORNER

Hey guys,

We have had a ton of fun in December. I can't wait for January to really get going. I believe we are all going to have a superb time out at Camp Bomazeen at the end of the month during our Rocketeering/Winter Camping event.

Until then....Derrick....you are going down at the Cub Scout Pine wood Derby. =o)  I look forward to see you all there and I would like to thank our Cub Master Regina for inviting us to participate in a "Boy Scout Heat" at the Pine Wood Derby.

Just want to remind you all that we need to start thinking seriously about doing some fund raising for summer camp. It is going to cost almost $300 per scout to attend camp this year. I will get a hold of Camp Roosevelt to find out the exact fees so we can raise the money needed to do this event. I haven't been to summer camp in about six years now. I am totally looking forward to going to summer camp with you all this year. I think it will be a new and fun experience for a lot of you in the Chupa patrol. It will be new to me as well as I have never attended Camp Roosevelt.

Well I think that is it for now. If any of you have any questions comments or concerns feel free to contact me.

Take care.

Yours in Scouting.

SM Chris.

Service to our Chartered Organization

November 11th our troop marched in the Veterans day parade. We marched along side our future troop the Cub Scout pack 445. Great job guys thanks for showing up.

On November 24th the troop marched in the Christmas parade in Waterville. We had been invited by the Cub Scout pack. Thanks to you who marched in this parade as well.

On November 25th we did a bottle drive to raise money to support the activities for this month. The troop has made December "Rocketeering month". So the $112 raised by the boys will be going towards buying rockets in which they will assemble and launch at Camp Bomazeen this January. Once Great Pond has frozen over, it will make a great launch site.

TROOP MEETING

At our last meeting our troop hosted it's first of many "Cub Scout Pack Lottery Nights", where our troop randomly picks a Den number out of a hat. That Den then gets to come to the Boy Scout meeting and do things that the Boy Scouts do. It is a great idea that our Troop and Cub Pack came up with to excite the Cubs about scouting. Den 2, the wolf den was chosen to come out and participate with us. The boys did a game to get to know the boys then we constructed a rope web and did "THE WEB" team building exercise in which all the boys have to get from one side of the web to the other without touching the web and only using each whole only once. We will announce which Den will get to come out in February and participate with us soon. Keep your eyes here on the site for that information.

SCOUTMASTERS CORNER

Hey there all. First off I want to thank the troop for marching in both the Veterans day Parade and the Christmas Parade. Great job guys. It is important to show the community our great spirit during such gatherings. Also want to congratulate the boys on a successful bottle drive. I only wish more of you had shown up. Those of you who did, did a great job raising a little over a hundred dollars. This will help you out a lot for the rockets we are ordering for you. It will also help to pay for extra rocket engines for multiple launches.

CUBBIES....if you read this, I want to thank Den 2 the wolf den for coming out to our troop meeting this last week. I hope you all had fun and learned something too. I also hope you tell all of your fellow cubs about what a great time you had so they have something to look forward to. You all did a great job on the "Web" project you did with our troop.

Last minute don't forgets. Don't forget to check the calender. Also, YLT (YOUTH LEADER TRAINING) is set for this weekend. I expect to see most of you there. 9:00 Am to 4:30 Pm, at the Youth Center. Bring a bag lunch, a note book, pencil and your Boy Scout. Hand book. Please come prepared to learn something about yourselves and your troop.

I will see you all this Thursday.

Take care.

Service to our Chartered Organization

October 22, our troop went to the Wyman Rd campsite to perform a service project to clean up the property owned by the VFW, our chartering organization. The property was purchased for the use of the Winslow Boy Scout troop back in the 1970s, and was used up until the troop changed charters to the Lions Club in the 90s. Now that we are now chartered with the VFW again, we decided to go out to that property and clean it up.  Our guys worked on rebuilding the fire pit, and general clean up of the camping area. Also the Scouts hand cut and built wooden stairs going into the campsite, as well as a 25 foot fence on either side of the entrance.  We plan to go out in the spring of 2007 and work on the site some more, to do some conservation projects, and possibly build an outhouse. Great job guys.

TROOP MEETING

In the last few meetings the troop has worked on advancement for the Chupa patrol. The Troop has also worked on prepping for the merit badge college and rocketeering month. Also the troop has decided to involve the Winslow Cub Scout troop by holding a "Cub Scout lottery" in which a random den will be selected to join our troop in a troop meeting and activity. Also in other things happening the boys will be doing YLT (youth leader training) hopefully with the Albion and Waterville troop. At the end of the month we are also doing a bottle drive to help raise money for the troop.

SCOUTMASTERS CORNER

Hey guys,

We have really gotten a lot done lately. I want to thank all of you who came out to the Troop Campsite, owned by the VFW, to help out in the clean up service project. Great job. We got 8 hours of service time logged in. That can count towards rank if you need it. Also you can put that on your resumes.

In November we have a lot we need to get done. YLT which I need all of you to attend. Also we have a fund raiser to raise money for the troop. You guys decided to try to do two weeks at Camp Roosevelt this year. We are going to need a ton of money to make that happen. In December, we can relax as we will start our Rocketeering projects.

We need ideas for January and February for activities keep in mind will be crossing over some new Webelos in February.

Also on the idea table is maybe forming a Venture patrol which would most likely be the Robo Cobra patrol. Just an idea at this point but something to talk about.

Lastly, I want to remind you all that we are marching in the Veteran's Day Parade in Waterville this Saturday. Make sure to be there in uniform to show your support to our troops past, present and future.  I will see you all there and until then.....

Take care.

Yours in Scouting.

SM Chris.

TRIPS, CAMPOUTS AND FUNTIMES

This past weekend our troop attended the K-Valley Fall Camporee at Litchfield Fair grounds. The theme was Maine Lumberjack. There were several events there including Log Saw, Log Pull, Kaber Toss, Tomahawk Throwing, Pancake eating and Chili Cook off.

Our Scouts took 3 place over all average in the Tomahawk throw. Also our scout Henry, took first place in the individual Hawk throw. Great job.

Here is a list of the other Troop Placements.

Troop Highest Average Throw

Troop 604 First Place

Troop 199 Second Place

Troop 433 Third Place

Troop 145 Fourth Place

Troop 460 Fifth Place

In the Campsite inspections our troop scored 12 points out of 16. Not too bad. We didn't really place but we had a clean site. I am sure we will get it next time.

Everyone did a great job this weekend. We all had fun. Great job.

TROOP MEETING

At our last meeting we worked on some patrol paperwork to try to make the meetings go smoother. The Patrols were handed a Report on Troop Activity sheet which would be a guide line to the meeting and act as an attendance form.

We also worked on updating the master contact list of the troop and we should be able to give a final copy at the next meeting.

The SPL talked about and we started to plan the Service project out to the Wyman Road VFW campsite. We are planning to clean the grounds, build bridges over the streams and work on building a gateway and Fence of the camp site.

We then talked about Merit Badge College. Make sure to check out the K-Valley web site for any up dates. More information about Merit Badge College will be coming out soon. Here is the link to the KV Site. http://www.kvscouts.org/

Lastly we choose Rockets for our Rocketeering month meetings in December. After, that the troop broke off into Patrol Break Out sessions. The Robo Cobra Patrol helped the Chupacabras work on Scout rank and Tenderfoot Rank.

SCOUTMASTERS CORNER

Hey there everyone. I just wanted to say that I had a great time at Camporee this weekend. I was glad to see so many of you there, and for those of you who were not there I hope that you will come out to Fall Camporee. I had a great time and can't wait for the next camping session we do together. In the mean time we prep for winter and we are going to focus a little more on some service project oriented stuff and maybe some fund raising stuff. Don't forget to sign up for Merit Badge College. I plan on teaching a couple merit badges, I know there are some more being offered. So make sure to check out the link above.

I also want to thank ASM Bill Ward, ASM Matt Ward and ASM Kim Harper for coming out to Training this past weekend. They all completed Part II of there training. They are almost home free on there Training. I want to encourage all the other ASMs and the committee to get trained soon.

Well I want to wish you all well and I will see you all on Thurs.

Take care.

Yours in Scouting.

RECRUITMENT

Congratulations Troop 433!!!!!

Great job on the recruitment drive this past week. We made the Morning Sentinel. We also recruited 40+ kids into the Scouting program total. Awesome work on the watch tower. Just a great job all around. Here are some pictures from that recruit.

TROOP MEETING

Great Job on this weeks meeting. We accomplished quite a bit. The Menus for our trip to Camp Bomazeen are well in hand. During the break out sessions, the Robo Cobras worked on maintenance of the troop owned rope. It would seem we discovered during the recruit when they were building the tower that most of the rope ends were frayed. The Robo Cobras worked on Whipping the ends of the troop rope to make sure they do not fray any longer.

Meanwhile, the Chupacabra Patrol worked on Basic Scout Skills.

Print them off and try to memorize those. You will be working with Assistant Scoutmaster Kim Harper and your Troop Guide, Zack on those. Good luck to you, welcome to our troop, and see you next week.

First off, GREAT JOB ON RECRUITMENT GUYS!!!!! Wow, we really pulled if off. I am excited to see so many new Scouts in our troop. That is great. I look forward to our camping trip next weekend at Camp Bomazeen. I spent many years at Camp Bomazeen as a young Scout. I first attended Fun Pack week as a Cub Scout in 1984. A long long time ago. Oh and that is a trick question. I will be asking you at the next meeting. Make sure you know it. Anyways, I have always loved camping there and I am glad the troop has chosen to camp there this month. I know we will all have a good time. We will laugh, have fun, and still learn some stuff too. Just one of many adventures this troop will share together. If any of you need anything or have questions feel free to contact me through the web, and I look forward to see you all next week. TROOP MEETING (Court of Honor)

Thanks so much to all who attended the first Court of Honor of the new Scouting year. We had tons and tons of merit badges and awards given to the boys as well as some of the adult leaders. Congratulations to all of you. Special thanks to Scott Bernier (Kennebec Valley District Round Table Chairman) for bringing your patch blankets out for display. He brought 4 full size blankets with hundreds of patches sewn to them. Also, we would like to thank Roger Ormsby for coming out and supporting us at our C.O.H. Lastly thanks to the parents and committee for coming out and bringing tons of good food with you.

RECRUITMENT

Recruitment schedule. September 12th.

Winslow Elementary School.

* 7:15am. All organizers and speakers of the recruitment should show up at Elementary School.

* 7:35am. Recruitment assembly/demo will be at School Gymnasium. 5-7 minute talk. 5-10 minute hands on. (Any troop 433 members welcome and are encouraged to come in Class A uniform. Please show up at 7:15am)

Winslow Jr. High School

* 8:00am. Tower construction to be done by Boy Scout Troop 433 at side entrance to the Jr. High School.

* 10:40am - 12:00pm. Scouts to have table set up at entry way to the Cafeteria to answer questions of students during the lunch periods.

* 12:00 - 2:30pm Scouts to prepare activities for after school.

* 2:30-7:00pm. Cub Scout and Boy Scout sign ups at the Jr. High School.

Ok, we have a plan for the structure for the Jr High School. We had to slightly modify the original plan. After figuring out the pole measurements we thought it would be too hard to construct two 15 foot towers with the span. So we chopped it down to one tower.

Also, we have finished deciding on four events to have available to perspective new scouts. The Troop will be hosting the fallowing events.

* Lava Run (activity) - 2 Kids will have to get over the Lava Flow using three planks. Fastest wins

* Speed Tie (hands on) - Copy the nots on the log. Fastest wins

* Indian Wresting (activity) - You got to see this one.

* Log Saw (hands on/thinking) - Kids will figure out how to measure a log to be cut the old fashioned way.

Also, don't forget to bring in your pictures from past camping trips.

SCOUTMASTERS CORNER

Hey all. I hope you are all as excited about recruitment as I am. I am sure this will be a huge success. Hopefully we can get this thing up and running and get some more warm body's at our troop meetings. Please read the Recruitment section above for the schedule. Please remember to bring pictures of past camping trips. Next meeting I hope to welcome in some new scouts. I also look forward to the coming months of camping and activities with this troop.
